The roll-on is the travel and sampling format. It is the one where cheap sourcing does the most damage per unit. The reason is simple: the ball sits permanently in the oil. A plastic ball is the cheapest option available and it is in continuous contact with a concentrated aromatic material for the entire life of the product. That makes it the worst possible specification for anything valuable.

We use stainless steel as standard, with glass available as an alternative. Stainless is inert, durable, and has the useful secondary property of feeling cold on application, which customers consistently read as premium. The retainer housing is polypropylene, but it is sealed above the oil line and does not contact the contents — the distinction matters and is worth verifying with any supplier.

Flow is the specification most often wrong on roll-ons sold into this category. Neat oud is viscous, considerably more so than the carrier-diluted oils these bottles are usually designed for, and a ball-and-housing combination sized for a thin oil either fails to dispense or dispenses in an uncontrolled slug. Ours is verified with neat oud at 20 °C and tested for ball retention across 500 application cycles.
