Incense Seal Powder 香篆 — Flow-Controlled 120 Mesh

Seal incense — 香篆 — is powder pressed into a continuous raised pattern and lit at one end. So it burns along the whole path at a known rate. It is the oldest interface between fragrance and timekeeping we have, and it is unforgiving of a badly specified powder. Too coarse and the pressed trail crumbles before it can be lit. Too fine and it packs down under the screed and self-extinguishes partway round. Too damp and it does both.

This SKU exists because the general-purpose 80 mesh grade does not do the job. It runs at 120 mesh and at a makko ratio optimised for cohesion rather than for burn speed. We do not publish a sieve-conformity percentage, an angle-of-repose figure or a propagation failure rate for it: we do not own standard test sieves and we have not run a counted press panel, and a flow number you cannot see the record for is worth less than no number at all.

Commercially, seal incense is the most effective way to sell powder at retail. On its own, a jar of brown powder has no obvious use and no ritual attached. Bundled with a press set — press, screed, tamper, brush, ash bowl — it becomes a practice that a customer can learn, photograph and repeat, and the reorder rate follows accordingly.

One packaging detail that matters more than it sounds: the jar must be wide-mouthed. A narrow retail jar means the customer has to decant onto a plate before they can screed, which adds a mess step to every single use. We supply wide-mouth jars as standard and recommend you keep them if you re-pack.
