Why this one

What makes Waterfall Incense Cones different

The bore is cut to your burner

Send us the burner or its chimney bore in millimetres. A generic bore is why a proportion of backflow stock simply does not flow, and the customer blames the cone.

We tell your customer about draft

Moving air breaks the descending smoke column. That is the top cause of "faulty" returns in this category and it is not a fault. We supply the placement note as printed insert copy.

Agarwood body, not a fragrance-dipped blank

Most backflow cones on the market are a neutral base dipped in fragrance oil. Ours use the same plantation Aquilaria and makko binder as our stick line.

Figures are our own production and batch measurements. Where a value needs independent confirmation — GC-MS on oil, flash point for the safety data sheet, material identity against LY/T 2904 — it is commissioned from an accredited laboratory and you receive their report rather than ours. An analysis issued by the supplier of the goods is a weaker document than an independent one, and we would rather you had the stronger one.

About this product

Waterfall Incense Cones — detail

A backflow cone works on one physical fact: smoke that has been cooled and is carrying solid particulate is denser than the air around it, so it sinks. The cone has a hollow channel running from a vent near the apex down to the open base. Smoke drawn into that channel loses heat on the way down, exits at the base heavier than ambient air, and pours over the burner instead of rising. Nothing about the effect is chemical — it is temperature and density. That is why it is so easy to break.

The bore is the specification that decides whether you have a product or a return. The channel has to sit over the burner chimney closely enough that smoke goes down the channel rather than escaping around it. Cones and burners bought from different suppliers frequently do not match. And the result is a cone that behaves like an ordinary cone: smoke goes up, the customer films nothing. The review says the product is fake. We cut the bore to your burner. Send us one, or send the chimney bore in millimetres, before we quote.

The second failure mode is not a manufacturing problem at all and cannot be engineered away: moving air destroys the effect. A backflow burner near an air conditioning vent, an open window or a doorway will not produce a waterfall regardless of cone quality, because the descending column is fragile and a light draft is enough to disperse it. This is the single most common reason backflow product gets returned as faulty. Telling the retail customer upfront costs nothing and reduces returns materially. So we supply the placement note as insert copy you can print in the box.

On material: most backflow cones in world trade are a neutral combustible base dipped in synthetic fragrance, because the format sells on the visual effect and buyers historically have not asked what is burning. Ours are the same plantation Aquilaria and makko body as our stick line. If you are positioning against the commodity end of this category, that is the difference worth putting on the box — and it is checkable, because a fragrance-dipped cone smells identical from first light to last while a genuine agarwood body evolves across the burn.

Buyer Questions

Incense waterfall — frequently asked questions

Why do some of my backflow cones not flow?

Two causes, and neither is usually the cone body. Either the channel bore does not match the burner chimney, so smoke escapes around the joint instead of entering the channel — that is a matching problem and we solve it by cutting the bore to your burner. Or there is moving air breaking up the descending column, which is physics rather than a defect. Check the bore first, then check for a draft.

Can I use these on any backflow burner?

Only if the bore matches. That is why we ask for your burner or its chimney bore in millimetres before quoting. If you buy cones and burners from us as a pair we verify the fit before packing. If you already source burners elsewhere, send us one. It is a small cost that removes the main failure mode in this category.

Can a regular incense cone be used as a backflow cone?

No. A solid cone has no channel, so there is no path for smoke to travel downward and it will simply smoke upward on a backflow burner. The two formats are not interchangeable in either direction — a backflow cone on a flat plate also loses the effect, because there is no chimney beneath the channel.

Is backflow incense safe to burn indoors?

It carries the same considerations as any burning incense: ventilate the room, keep the burner on a non-combustible surface, and do not leave it unattended. The descending smoke is not more hazardous than rising smoke. It is the same combustion products at a lower temperature. The practical difference is that backflow burners concentrate smoke at table level, so in a small room the perceived density is higher even though total output is unchanged.
